From an award-winning Aussie business helping reduce ocean plastics.
Each year, millions of plastic toothbrushes end up in landfill or our oceans, where they can remain for hundreds of years. We believe there’s a better way.
The Turtle Tribe was founded in 2018 by an Aussie kid on a mission to inspire change and help protect our precious oceans.

Are Boar Bristles Right For Your Family?
If you’re looking to avoid plastics, boar bristles are one of the most natural toothbrush bristle options available.
Unlike nylon or “plant-based” nylon bristles, these contain no plastic.
They offer a medium-firm brushing feel and leave teeth feeling wonderfully clean.
For sensitive teeth or gums, simply soak in warm water briefly before brushing to soften the bristles. You'll also find the bristles naturally soften over time with use.
Care Instructions
Because natural bristles are more absorbent than nylon, they perform best when cared for properly:
- Rinse thoroughly after use
- Shake off excess water
- Store upright in a dry, airy place
- Sunlight can help naturally freshen bristles
- Replace every 5–8 weeks or sooner if worn
End of Life
When finished, compost, bury, or reuse the handle as:
- Garden row marker
- Home cleaning brush
- Craft or upcycling project
Natural & Plastic-Free
- 100% plastic-free toothbrush
- 100% biodegradable handle
- Nylon-free
- BPA-free
- GMO-free
- Completely natural bristles
Honest Sourcing & Sterilisation
We believe customers deserve honesty about what they’re buying.
Our natural boar bristles are sourced from pigs already processed within the food industry. They are not harvested from live animals, nor are animals raised or harmed solely for their bristles. Instead, the bristles are collected as a secondary natural fibre that would otherwise go to waste.
This toothbrush won’t be the right choice for everyone, but many customers choose it as a plastic-free alternative to nylon bristles.
The bristles are thoroughly cleaned, sterilised, and straightened using high-temperature water processing, with no added chemical treatments.
Natural variation in colour is completely normal and reflects their untreated origin.
Nylon vs Boar Bristles

There's no perfect solution - just choose the option that best suits your priorities.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
To avoid mould, please allow your bamboo toothbrushes to air-dry after use. Do not stand in a wet cup, as constant moisture can cause this natural product to grow mould.
If storing unused brushes for long periods be sure to store away from heat and moisture, in an air-tight container.
How often should I replace my toothbrush?
How often should I replace my toothbrush?
Dentists recommend that you replace your toothbrush every three months due to bacterial build-up in the bristles. A plastic one will be around for another 500 years after you're gone, so thanks for choosing biodegradable bamboo instead!
