Most electric toothbrush heads are made almost entirely from plastic and are designed to be thrown away every few months. Our horsehair bristle sonic heads combine a bamboo outer head with natural bristles, helping reduce the amount of synthetic material used in your daily oral-care routine.
Why We Chose Horsehair
We wanted to offer a genuinely natural bristle option for our sonic electric toothbrush.
Boar bristles work well in a manual toothbrush, but they are generally too coarse and firm for the rapid movement of a sonic brush. Horsehair is naturally softer and more flexible, making it better suited to sonic brushing.
The bristles are made from pure horsehair, with no nylon or other synthetic fibres added. This gives customers a softer, plastic-free alternative bristle while still enjoying the convenience and cleaning action of an electric toothbrush.

A Naturally Gentle Brushing Experience
Horsehair bristles are naturally soft and flexible, making them a great option for people who prefer a gentler brushing feel or want to reduce synthetic materials in their oral-care routine.
Unlike nylon bristles, horsehair is a natural animal fibre. It may vary slightly in colour, texture and firmness from one head to another. These small variations are normal and are part of choosing a natural material rather than a completely uniform synthetic filament.
Please note that horsehair bristles are not vegan.
Sourcing and Preparation
Our natural bristles are ethically sourced from horse-tail hair collected from live horses during routine grooming and trimming.
Before use, the horsehair undergoes a multi-stage cleaning process that includes thorough washing, high-temperature boiling at over 100°C for at least four hours, further treatment using standard hair-processing agents, extended drying, sorting and final quality control inspection.
How to Use
Attach the replacement head firmly to your Turtle Tribe Sonic Electric Toothbrush.
Place the bristles gently against your teeth and allow the sonic movement to do the cleaning. Guide the brush slowly across each tooth using light pressure rather than scrubbing.
Pressing too firmly is unnecessary and may cause natural bristles to wear more quickly.
Caring for Natural Bristles
After each use:
- Rinse the bristles thoroughly under clean running water
- Shake off excess water
- Store the toothbrush upright
- Allow the head to dry fully in a well-ventilated area
- Avoid storing it inside a closed, damp container
- Do not leave the head sitting in water
Natural bristles require a little more care than nylon bristles. Proper rinsing and drying will help keep the head fresh and extend its useful life.
When Should I Replace the Head?
We recommend replacing your horsehair toothbrush head approximately every 5–8 weeks.
Replace it sooner if the bristles become noticeably worn, flattened, splayed, damaged or less effective.
The replacement cycle may vary depending on how frequently you brush, how much pressure you apply and how well the head is allowed to dry between uses.
Compatibility
These heads are designed specifically for The Turtle Tribe Sonic Electric Toothbrush.
They are not designed to fit Oral-B® or other electric toothbrush brands.

At The Turtle Tribe, orders are processed within 5 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) after receiving your payment confirmation email.
Deliveries to parcel lockers are only available for orders above $30.
Our free shipping offer does not include any order that contains Cleaner Oceans Co. products.
Deliveries are made from 8:30am on Monday-Friday.
We ship with Australia Post and other local courier services. To keep costs down we do not offer tracking on every parcel. At our discretion we may apply tracking to your parcel and/or require a signature upon delivery as proof of receipt.
We reserve the right to refuse delivery to some addresses
RETURNS
In order to be eligible for a refund, you have to return the product within 30 calendar days of your purchase. The product must be unopened and in the same condition that you receive it and undamaged in any way.
After we receive your item, our team of professionals will inspect it and process your refund. The money will be refunded to the original payment method you’ve used during the purchase. For credit card payments it may take 5 to 10 business days for a refund to show up on your credit card statement.
If the product is damaged in any way, or you have initiated the return after 30 calendar days have passed, you will not be eligible for a refund.
If the product is faulty you have the right under Australian Consumer Law to a refund or replacement. Please contact us to arrange a suitable solution.
Please note bamboo toothbrush handles can be susceptible to mould if stored incorrectly. Bamboo toothbrushes must be stored in a dry non-humid location prior to use, and kept dry between uses. Stored and used this way, bamboo toothbrush handles will not go mouldy.

To avoid mould, please allow your bamboo toothbrushes to air-dry after use. Do not stand in a wet cup, as constant moisture can cause this natural product to grow mould.
If storing unused brushes for long periods be sure to store away from heat and moisture, in an air-tight container.

Dentists recommend that you replace your toothbrush every three months due to bacterial build-up in the bristles. A plastic one will be around for another 500 years after you're gone, so thanks for choosing biodegradable bamboo instead!
